About Me
Dr. Tresza Hutcheson is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Health at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and Director of UKan Quit Tobacco Treatment Program at the University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC). Dr. Hutcheson also directs the clinic for the Center for Genetic Services and Health Equity. She is a certified tobacco treatment specialist and helped found the University of Kansas Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training.
Dr. Hutcheson received her PhD in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Kansas, at which time she started specializing in tobacco prevention and treatment. This led to a 20+ year career which has included providing treatment among underresourced and minoritized populations; providing clinical supervision, training, protocol development, and fidelity monitoring for large clinical trials; conducting quality improvement initiatives at the KUCC and University of Kansas Medical Center; serving as an expert nationally for quality improvement and implementation methods for tobacco treatment within cancer care; and serving locally through community-based partnerships.
Dr. Hutcheson has a passion for promoting health equity. Growing up in a rural area herself, she has a special interest in helping underresourced populations have better access to specialized healthcare services. In 2020, she joined the team at the JUNTOS Center for Advancing Latino Health and works on multiple cross-disciplinary projects there, as well as serves as the Center's data analyst. She leads a project for a youth-focused tobacco prevention program in partnership with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County health department.
