C-CLEAR Undergraduate Summer Program
The Careers in Clinical Research Program (C-CLEAR) is a summer program that introduces college students to the exciting world of clinical research. Hosted by The University of Kansas Cancer Center, this eight-week program gives pre-medical students hands-on experience in how science and medicine work together to improve patient care.
Led by Joseph Hines, II, MPH, senior director of research operations, C-CLEAR teaches students the basics of clinical research, including how studies are run and data is collected. Participants also earn a special certification called Good Clinical Practice (GCP), which shows they understand the rules and ethics of clinical research.
This program helps students find their place in clinical research and shows them how they can contribute to advancing research. Joseph Hines, II, Senior Director of Research Operations
Students work alongside professionals in the cancer center’s Clinical Trials Office. Students see leading-edge science firsthand, learning how new treatments move from the lab to clinical trials and ultimately to patients.
The C-CLEAR program also helps students explore different career paths in clinical research. Whether as clinical research coordinators, regulatory specialists or future physician-investigators, participants leave the program with a broader understanding of career opportunities that go beyond traditional medical or laboratory roles.
