July 27, 2021

U.S. News & World Report released its 2021-22 Best Hospitals rankings on July 27. For the tenth year, the cancer program at The University of Kansas Hospital is one of the nation’s best.

U.S. News evaluates hospitals on a series of a data-driven analysis of performance measures, including patient outcomes, nursing quality and the range of programs offered in any one specialty. These rankings were created to help patients with the most complex conditions find the most advanced care.

U.S. News evaluated 4,523 hospitals this year, and only 165 hospitals ranked nationally in one or more specialties.

Seven specialties at The University of Kansas Hospital were nationally ranked, including Cancer (No. 49), which made the top 50 for the tenth time. It is the only cancer program in the region to be recognized.

In addition, The University of Kansas Hospital is nationally recognized as the Best Hospital in Kansas City and in Kansas. It is the only hospital in Kansas to ever receive these honors.

During the pandemic, patients and consumers have recognized the important role of healthcare teams and organizations more than ever before. While exceptional care of patients with COVID-19 has certainly been in the spotlight, our employees and physicians have also worked tirelessly to provide the very best care for thousands of other patients who chose The University of Kansas Hospital for routine care or treatment for complex conditions. We are excited to once again be recognized as the best hospital in our city and state and alongside the best hospitals in the nation. Patients and families can trust the team at The University of Kansas Hospital to always provide the highest quality, safest care available anywhere. - Tammy Peterman, MS, RN, FAAN
